    • Mel Decision
    • OCR Profile
    • Mel is a hobbyist musician. She started learning composition and production to take the place of in-person drum lessons during the pandemic, and has since grown those skills thanks various online music communities. She's still exploring and trying to develop a musical style.

Video games have long been a staple of Mel's life; she's been playing video games as long as she can remember. JRPGs have always been her favorite genre, starting with games like Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger on SNES. The soundtracks of Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Cross, Suikoden, and other JRPGs have long held influence over Mel's musical tastes.

Mel was thrilled to be introduced to OCR in high school in the early 2000s, and featured many songs from the OCR community on a video game-inspired radio show she hosted during college.

It was a dream of hers to create remixes like the ones she grew up loving, and she was finally able to make that dream a reality with the Final Fantasy VIII: SeeDs of Pandora album released in 2023. Her next goal is to play a live instrument in one of her own arrangements.

What OC ReMix means to me

I've been a fan of OC ReMix since I was in high school in the early 2000s! Remixing video game music has been a goal of mine since I learned that was a thing you could do, and I'm so thrilled to be able to realize that dream with the help of the OCR community.

    • Moebius
    • OCR Profile
    • Moebius is a passionate composer and arranger who began his musical journey playing guitar in a rock band during his youth. Later in life he delevoped a deeper understanding of music theory concepts by participating in online competitions such as the weekly challenges on the 8-Bit Music Theory community. He draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres, including South American Latin music and early 2000s metal, creating a unique blend that informs his musical style. Moebius enjoys crafting metal arrangements that incorporate intricate jazz components, showcasing his love for complexity and musical fusion. However, he is not afraid of branching out beyond that, sometimes tackling orchestral or synth-heavy compositions.

A relative newcomer to the OverClocked ReMix community, Moebius has been actively contributing for over a year. He made his mark by participating in 'Game Set Mash!! 2', bringing his distinctive style to the project. His favorite video game soundtracks include the relaxing and immersive Stardew Valley, the engaging and narrative-driven Ace Attorney series, and the arrangement-heavy Crypt of the Necrodancer.

Beyond music, Moebius is an avid gamer with a love for grand strategy games like Stellaris and Europa Universalis, factory builders such as Factorio and Satisfactory, and turn-based strategy titles, particularly the X-COM series. This passion for complex, strategy-driven games often mirrors the depth and intricacy found in his musical arrangements.

What OC ReMix means to me

I am deeply grateful to the OverClocked ReMix community for their support and encouragement in my growth as an artist. Without this community, my songs on this album wouldn't have reached their full potential.

    • OCR Profile
    • Ridley Snipes is the latest alias/project of a band kid turned audio engineer, with 25 years of combined musical inexperience. Once a talented multi-instrumentalist, he now mostly specializes in mouse + keyboard and 'dreaming of someday building that studio.'

Probably tries too hard, but doesn't want to. Currently experiencing a pop renaissance.

What OC ReMix means to me

OverClocked ReMix (via LimeWire) was my gateway into the scene at large almost 20 years ago. Were it not for that fateful LW search, there's a decent chance I wouldn't still be musically involved at this stage of life.

In recent years (read: Covid), I've gotten a bit closer to the community and met some truly kindhearted and talented people. I'm happy to have contributed a spot on this anniversary album.

    • Sbeast
    • OCR Profile
    • Scott (Sbeast) has been arranging video game music since around 2009, and has contributed to several OC ReMix albums. He has also made arrangements of music from film soundtracks, TV shows, Christmas songs, and Classical songs.

One of his video game arrangements was even played at EVO 2016.

In 2017 he released an arrangement album of music from The Lord of the Rings called Lord of the Metal Rings. Since then he has been developing his playing and arranging skills, and has plans to release original music as well as continuing to cover more of his favourite songs.

What OC ReMix means to me

OC ReMix is a great website and community for those who love video game music, and I'm happy to be a part of it. :)

Thanks to all those who helped to create and contribute to it for the last 25 years!

What OC ReMix means to me

i joined OC ReMix as a high schooler on dial-up internet in 2004. since then, my involvement with the site as gone up and down over time, but the influence of OCR's community and mission on my own career, interests, and path can't be overstated. as an active collaborator, former project director, and current judge, i've been involved with many layers of OCR and all sorts of big happenings on the site, and i couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity.

    • aluminum
    • OCR Profile
    • aluminum has had an appreciation for video game music since the days of the NES. He primarily writes and arranges music with an electronic/EDM sensibility, but strives to blend an eclectic mix of elements from diverse genres along with creative sound design to create unique and surprising compositions. He had his first appearance on OC ReMix way back in 2003, and contributed to an arrangement album for the first time on Jet Force Gemini: Mizar Attacks! in 2021. Outside of OCR, aluminum produces and composes original music under the artist name Zaxcess.

What OC ReMix means to me

I feel very fortunate to have stumbled on OCR shortly after it launched. It was my first time really finding a community that had a deep, genuine respect for game music while also challenging its members to arrange pieces in creative new directions. It's really because of OCR that I'm still producing music now. I had always been fascinated by music technology, but at the time it seemed either too expensive or just downright inaccessible to pursue. That perception changed when I was introduced to the Reason DAW through OCR, which I still use to this day. And having the goal of getting one of my own tracks onto the site pushed me to learn the tools and work on my arrangement and production knowledge. Finally, I also have to say that it's been inspiring to watch many talented people who have contributed to OCR go on to work professionally in the games industry — including, of course, Danny Baranowsky, whose work I'm covering here!

    • The Vodoú Queen
    • OCR Profile
    • Black, LGBTQ+ female. Born in Detroit. Raised in Florida up until her early 20s. Moved to the UK for her Masters degree in Psychology. Stayed ever since 2011. 37 years old (as of 2025).

Her practical musical background is sporadic, where a lot of music theory she did not get a full grasp on until later in life — however, she grew up listening to and absorbing the knowledge of all kinds of musical genres and artists, from a wide berth of musical eras — classical orchestra to modern pop — in kindness and thanks to her parents' eclectic tastes. She never went to school for music outside of band class back in junior high school (played first/second chair concert B♭ flute), and the occasional keyboard or acoustic guitar lesson here and there, so a lot of her actual inspiration and influences come from simply immersing herself into and enjoying various music. She has a growing repertoire of a music library and musical likes that expand every day as she learns more and more about the process of making music and vicariously through daily practice, deep listening, and self-motivated research. She does not have a particular "inspiration" insofar as a person or role-model goes, nor a preferred "style of arrangement". She simply does what she feels is right for the source or in the moment, or what she feels like learning or experimenting on that day. She does not define herself by a genre convention or chain and anchor herself to any one thing. She does what her soul says to do, and follows where her heart takes her.

She grew up with and likes a variety of games, but her favorite genres are: action/adventure, RPGs and roguelike platformers. Her absolute all-time favorite series is Metroid, followed by Castlevania and Final Fantasy. She has way too many VGM soundtracks she loves and enjoys, but if she needs to place her finger on any one thing, the current vibe is any OST from a Metroidvania-style game (e.g. Hollow Knight, Dead Cells) or indie platformer (e.g. Shovel Knight, Infernax). Her current running list of OCR albums and projects she has or is currently participating in are: Final Fantasy VIII: SeeDs of Pandora, The Impact of Iwata, TimeShift, the upcoming albums Lufia II: Of Gods and Men, and those for Star Fox and Tetris Attack; she is also featured in several Pixel Mixers albums and projects.

She did not start being an actual part of the OCR community until she was working on SeeDs, but she has a long-standing history of collecting OC ReMixes since the site's inception back in the early 2000s, and has always been a fan from a distance until a few years ago. So far, things have been alright in and around the space, making friends, and growing a lot as an artist, but her hope is one day that will expand and get better with time, in getting to know more people and getting her name out there. She knows by all accounts she is "new-ish" to the OCR scene, but it is her hope OCR artists, casual listeners, and fans alike will come to like and appreciate her music work, and just swing by on Discord for a chill conversation every once in a while. ♥

What OC ReMix means to me

What does OverClocked ReMix mean to me? Let's keep it short n' sweet: community; musical growth; new friendships; new horizons; new opportunities, and, last but certainly not least; kick-ass music (that I practically grew up with). 'Nuff said. ♥

    • gravitygauntlet
    • OCR Profile
    • Adrian "gravitygauntlet" Wahrer is a progressive electronic artist with touches of chillout or world music. Originally from Pensacola, Florida, elements from predominantly Southern genres such as bluegrass, jazz, and funk characterize his works with additional texture, rhythm, and bass.

His releases are inspired by late '90s and early 2000s music, incorporating elements from downtempo, hip-hop, jazz fusion, liquid funk, prog, and rhythm and grime (R'n'G). Some VGM influences include Halo (esp. Michael Salvatori, Stan LePard); Metroid (Minako Hamano, Kenji Yamamoto); as well as various works by Yuzo Koshiro and Motoi Sakuraba.

He is often a musician on concept albums or original scores. In 2022, he was a contributor to indie VN ValiDate's original soundtrack; and in 2023, he contributed to Unofficial MSPA Fans' Land of Fans and Music 5 Act 2, alongside Pixels & Paradiddles.

What OC ReMix means to me

To me, OCR has always been a very approachable community for musicians of various skill levels for both VGM arrangements and original works. I've lurked OCR since roughly 2005, but only recently got involved directly. My first sub was fresh out of college in 2018 and a second was later accepted in 2024.

    • 100%ROEMER
    • OCR Profile
    • 100%ROEMER — after spending years upon years training as a classical musician before moving on to producing their own tracks in a variety of genres — ultimately realized that their musical efforts were fated to go unnoticed and unappreciated simply because the human music market is terribly oversaturated. With no practical means to break into the music scene and no inclination to engage in the behaviors required of famous musical "artists" in the modern era, 100%ROEMER came to the realization that nobody was making music for fish. In the wise words of Dick "Magic Ears" Knubbler, former producer for the legendary death metal band DethKlok: "There must be billions of fish out there! It's a totally untapped market!" The rest is history and today 100%ROEMER produces music exclusively for fish (you can listen too, but his music is intended for fish only).

What OC ReMix means to me

I think OCR is the greatest lifeline in existence to videogame music as it continually breathes life into the art of musicians around the world whose tracks would perhaps be relegated to the fate of vaporware otherwise.

    • mo.oorgan
    • OCR Profile
    • A majority of mo.oorgan's earliest memories are pertinent to music in some form or another, from being handed a pair of sticks to play a neighbor's drum kit, to experiencing the raw energy of Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood", the booming bass of "Whoomp, There It Is!" on a large stereo, or the pure catchiness of "No Diggity" on a truck radio. Music has always been at the core of their existence and perception of the world.

Born into a family of avid Nintendo gamers, the soundtracks accompanying the games were the first real infusion of inspiration into their musical DNA. Specifically imprinted by soundtracks from the Donkey Kong Country series and Mario entries like Yoshi's Cookie, Mario Paint, and Super Mario World, they gravitated toward the Nintendo 64's soundtracks, such as Diddy Kong Racing, Pokémon Snap, the Banjo-Kazooie series, F-Zero X, Star Fox 64, S.C.A.R.S., the Pokémon Stadium series, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Iggy's Wreckin' Balls, and plenty more. The handheld Pokémon series, as well as the television and movie soundtracks, deepened their personal connection to music. However, Pokémon Gold & Silver and the Pokémon 2.B.A. Master/Pokémon 2000 soundtracks hold the deepest sense of nostalgia for them from this time period. These early years were marked by a love for their parents' album collection, introducing them to a fondness for funk and synthpop compilation albums, various '80s-'90s rock and hip-hop singles, and Western radio stations they found on their childhood Walkman.

As the GameCube and Nintendo DS came into play, Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: Wild World became staples in their musical appreciation, alongside other games like Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, among many others. These years also introduced them to the era of MTV and VH1 music videos and their first iPod and iTunes, expanding their musical tastes to include various forms of metal, pop-punk, and alt-rock. Bands like Linkin Park, Yellowcard, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, Blink-182, Slipknot, System of a Down, Gorillaz, Eminem, and more became part of their repertoire. They also developed a particular fondness for rhythm games, playing Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania/DrumMania whenever the opportunity presented itself, though it never quite satisfied their urge to play music. They could never fully grasp what kind of music they were hearing while playing these games, but reserved a deep excitement to learn more about it someday.

As they grew older and had their own computer in their bedroom, the internet expanded their musical tastes even further. They developed a passion for more nuanced musical experiences through indie, alternative rock, and classic rock bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Incubus, Modest Mouse, Paramore, Thrice, H.I.M., Rise Against, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Bad Religion, Opeth, Coheed & Cambria, Wolfmother, Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Shinedown, and more. They also received Guitar Hero 1 & 2 as gifts through these years and played until they could beat expert mode on the most difficult songs, which very quickly prompted them to move towards learning how to play guitar, receiving an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar as gifts. These early days of unrestricted internet access also led to their discovery of meme-sites like YTMND and early YouTube, which subsequently led to their interest in electronic music, like "Dragostea Din Tei", various Daft Punk songs, "Running Through the 90's", "What Is Love", "Blue (Da Ba Dee)", and Basshunter, the latter of which lit a fire of desire for learning how to make that kind of music. This would also be their introduction to OC ReMix as a website, having interacted with their music to use as backing tracks for early YouTube videos and for Super Smash Bros. Melee combo video attempts.

As they went through high school, with a particular affinity for backstage theater, their musical tastes progressed into hardcore, screamo, and various scene and emo-based stylings, such as From First to Last, Saosin, Bring Me the Horizon, A Day to Remember, Sleeping With Sirens, Of Mice & Men, I Set My Friends on Fire, Attack! Attack!, We Came As Romans, Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, Nevershoutnever, and Suicide Silence. During this particular era, Sonny Moore formed Skrillex, and mo.oorgan's musical interests followed suit, falling head over heels for artists such as him, Deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Madeon, BT, Zedd, Krewella, Knife Party, Above & Beyond, and Armin Van Buuren. They began by trying to produce primitive guitar and drum-based recordings in Audacity but later switched to an early version of FL Studio to produce their first electronic music demos. They would also begin filling in various gaps in their musical history by venturing through jazz, big band, reggae, and blues artists.

As the years went by, they became a drummer for a grunge band, emulating the styles of Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, and others, while personally indulging in post-hardcore and mathcore styles like La Dispute, The Fall of Troy, A Lot Like Birds, Hail the Sun, Polyphia, Tesseract, and more. They purchased a bass around this time. During this time period, they moved across the country, and in lieu of losing access to their basic electronics, they found solace in various rap artists like Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, Hopsin, Tech N9ne, Nas, and more, as well as learning how to freestyle rap and write their own lyrics.

As time passed, they were able to get situated and build a computer, to which they began recording and producing the various styles of music they've listened to throughout their life. Never content to sit musically still, they always experiment to see what sounds they can create. They love making and listening to all types of music to this day. They recently began a YouTube channel with the intent to discuss various music topics through different levels of application. In this most recent timeframe, mo.oorgan joined OC ReMix to release their first remix as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration album, TimeShift, and they actively seek more opportunities to release with them, as well as avenues to begin releasing original music they've created throughout the years.

What OC ReMix means to me

I believe that OverClocked ReMix is a place and safe haven for people to express their deep-rooted and passionate gratitude for two different but complementary and synergetic art forms. It's a place that has changed much over the years, but as someone who has interacted with and appreciated it from the shadows more than actively, I recognize it as a place for honesty, introspection, and guiding people on how to walk before they run. This place has come to mean a lot to me in the short time that I've been here, and I regret not throwing my hat into the ring sooner, but feel grateful and lucky to be here now, and hope to make up for that in the years and projects to come.

    • Dyluck
    • OCR Profile
    • Behind the façade of the blue noodledragon called Dyluck is an OCR tragic. Born in Australia before moving to Florida in 2021, music has been as important to him as drinking water. Coming from a classically-trained mould, with much of his lifelong performance experience being part of a small church choir, his teenage rebellion involved listening to the pop, rock and alternative radio stations rather than the easy-listening "grey goo" of his parents (along with learning the bagpipes). Rather, since owning Alex Kidd in Miracle World from his 8th birthday and trying to tap out its distinctive ditty on the piano, the world of VGM has been the fount of his creativity.

While drinking up the new listening opportunities that the turn-of-the-millennium internet offered, he stumbled across OverClocked ReMix in its early days, and became a lifelong, if quiet, superfan. After discovering music notation software around the same time and penning some MIDI tunes for some friends, he dreamed of making a ReMix and posting it to the site. Technology in the early '00s, though, was not able to produce the sound he desired easily, and it wasn't until 20 years later that things finally caught up. All the while, he was slowly going through the entire OCR catalog, listening and learning, with his habit of training his ear to the older material keeping his knowledge almost like a time capsule from the site's early years.

After becoming active in the community in 2023, he realised in early 2024 that the 25th anniversary of the site was coming up quickly, the idea of an anniversary album swam into his head, and the concept came as a shower thought. He considers it a privilege and an honour to have been able to lead this project and is thrilled to have been able to provide a conduit for the fantastic music in this album.

Much of his gaming diet consists of action RPGs and adventure games, strategy games, platformers, city-builders, and logistics games. Usually (at least) once a week, he can be found on Twitch playing something that strikes his fancy, often deep in a playthrough of some game that has some space-based element to it; so much so that he's earned the moniker of "space noodle". Musically, he is like a magpie, taking snippets and snatches of things he is captivated by. He counts the greats of the mid-to-late '90s in VGM as his inspirations, especially Kikuta, Kirkhope, Mitsuda, Shimomura, and Wise; from the classical mainstream there's many but Bach, Glass, and Lauridsen rate highly; and, while Coldplay and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are his favorite bands, often something in the popular music sphere will have some hook or technique that he finds intriguing.

What OC ReMix means to me

OCR's ability to provide a place where artists can grow and express their love for the worlds of wonder that VGM creates is something that I truly find amazing. Every time I come across one of its thousands of tracks that I've not heard before is like opening a treasure chest. Its ability to be the platform for new artists and industry professionals and the crossroads between the two is incredible. OCR has been a constant in my musical digest for more than 20 years, and exposed me to many different genres and styles that I would have never even considered making part of my listening diet. I adore the post-modern ideal of taking and transforming the old and mundane into the new and fantastic, and what a way to do it is right at the core of OCR: the otherwise ethereal, incidental ditties of video games are treated with the love they deserve and become masterpieces in their own right. OCR's titans are my heroes, and I have been truly blessed to have been welcomed into the community with open arms by them and to have been able to work with them on this album.

    • OCR Profile
    • Jorrith "Jorito" Schaap is an arranger and composer hailing from the North of the Netherlands. Growing up with the 8-bit MSX home computer, he taught himself the basics of music with FM trackers and worked on numerous games and demos for the MSX and MSX game remakes. He has been involved in numerous VGM projects, albums, and competitions as part of his continuing journey in the world of music.

What OC ReMix means to me

As a community, I've always found OC ReMix to be supportive and admired the fresh takes on VGM that went beyond straight covers. After messing around with music for many years, OC ReMix challenged me to really up my game as an arranger and as a mixer. The OCR bar, while challenging, stimulated me to give it my all and help me grow.

    • OCR Profile

    • Cosmoptera, also known occasionally as LCS or Lordcakespy, is an independent musician who creates primarily electronic music. While not strictly any particular genre, her music draws inspiration from house, synthwave, techno, chiptune, classical, drum and bass, and, of course, video game music as a whole. Playing Kirby at a young age permanently altered her taste in music and that's the reason she's like this now.

    • Pixels & Paradiddles
    • OCR Profile
    • Pixels & Paraddidles is comprised of identical twins Josh and Seph Brown. Josh plays drums, keys, and synthetic instrument programming while Seph plays guitar and bass; both provide vocals when able. Both twins have been playing in bands together for nearly 20 years as of the time of TimeShift's release.

Both twins love RPGs, team-based shooters, tabletop games, and survival horror puzzlers. When not making VGM, they like progressive rock/metal, jazz, stoner metal, and orchestral arrangements. Final Fantasy holds a gigantic place in their musical hearts.

Josh discovered OC ReMix in the early '00s and shared it with Seph. They've been hooked on dope VGM remixes and rearrangements ever since.

What OC ReMix means to us

OCR is a place to learn, to love, and to enjoy. We have packed hard drives and iPods full of OverClocked Remixes over the years and we have no intention of stopping.

This community is a large part of what drove Josh and I to grow as musicians! It took over ten years for us to get a remix ready for the site - so don't feel discouraged if you are struggling to meet the standards.

We know we had a hard climb to get to where we are now, and so we want to give back to the community that helped us along the way. We're honored to be a part of the Sages here at OCR, and look forward to providing as much support as we can for y'all!!
